I still remember the first time I walked through those security doors into the back room. Sure I’d heard rumours but… Christ rumours never prepare you for reality, they just lengthen the moment because you’ve got to kick yourself out of that “Shit, you mean it was true?” mindset before you can even start to process it. And I so wasn’t ready to process it. I mean, there I was walking through the doors, my bouncer beside me and a tray of hot treats in my hands. Needless to say that the hot treats that the men in that room were interested in never came on a tray. Course, I didn’t know at that stage that the boss had been prepping me for the next step. Sometimes I wish I’d never walked though those doors, I wonder what life would have been like. But then I snap back, pull on my leather trousers, click the collar closed and walk through those doors again. What can I say? I know my place in life and despite everything, I can honestly say it’s never boring!

I learned pretty quickly that talking about my past was more of a turn off than anything else I could have done. No one wants to hear the story of the little kid raised in the foster system until he was old enough to be rented out and eventually sold off for a couple of bottles of booze and a years membership to a club that catered to ‘daddy’s’ favourite fetish. No one wants to know about the six year old kid that found himself lost in the middle of this den of filth or about the heavy brown envelopes that he’d carried to drug dealers and cops alike. Post Lovers Walk fiction, where instead of keeping apart, Willow manoeuvers Xander and Oz together so she can have both her men close to her at all times but then she meets Tara and starts to neglect her existing relationship, leaving Oz to mop up behind her. This fic has had so many false starts and mental blocks surrounding it. I just hope that it reads okay. It is one of the singlemost demanding fics I've written in a very long time. Enjoy.

The chains clinked as they curled around the body of the winch.
